Daily Email Devotions from the Bible with a Difference

A SHORT THOUGHT FROM GOD'S WORD

Here's the difference in a nutshell:
They are short.
They are concise.
They keep you in touch with God's Word.

(See samples below.)

When I designed A Short Thought From God's Word, I was the youth leader at my church, and I wanted to encourage my group to be in the Bible daily. I knew that most of the kids checked their email daily, but usually did not have time to read anything lengthy. So I decided to make daily devotions that were short but still captured the heart of the teachings of Scripture.

Short Thought From God's Word is exactly as the name implies: short and directly from the Bible. Each devotion contains a few Bible verses, and a brief comment based on those verses. Scripture quotations are from the New International Version. One devotion is emailed to subscribers each day.

A Short Thought From God's Word was developed to be helpful in reminding believers of what God's Word says. It is short so that it will not be overlooked by busy people, but it is direct, and never compromises God's Word.

Here are a few sample devotions from Ephesians 1

Day 1 - A short thought from God's Word:

Ephesians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

In this world, we don't always get what we want, but in the heavenly realms, there is no spiritual blessing that God does not give us. Since this world will be destroyed and the heavenly realms last forever, we sure get the best end of the deal.

Day 2 - A short thought from God's Word

Ephesians 1:4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-- 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

When you feel depressed, remember: Before the world was even created, God knew you, and chose you to be one of His people. He planned that you would join his family through adoption, and through the grace and blood of Jesus Christ.

Day 3 - A short thought from God's Word:

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

Besides the eternal gifts that God gives, He has gifts for us in this world. He gives us forgiveness and grace and whatever he thinks we need in His wisdom and understanding. No spoiled child could be pampered better than the way God lavishes His gifts on us.

Day 4 - A short thought from God's Word:

Ephesians 1:9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

We are privileged to be in the know about one of the mysteries of God, that, at the proper time, Christ would be the head over all of creation, both in heaven and on earth. If Christ will be the king of everything in existence, don't you think it would be wise to please Him now?

Day 5 - A short thought from God's Word:

Galatians 1:13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.

Everyone who becomes a believer receives the Holy Spirit. This presence of God in our lives is like a deposit which guarantees a transaction to come. God guarantees, by giving us Himself, that He will carry out all the promises that he has made to us for eternity.

Day 6 - A short thought from God's Word:

Ephesians 1:15. For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

The desire and prayer of Paul for these believers is that they would be given a Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know God better. We would do well to copy Paul, and pray for this for ourselves and our fellow believers.

Day 7 - A short thought from God's Word:

Galatians 1:18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Paul's prayer is that the Galatians could comprehend the eternal reward for which they were hoping. The riches of His glorious inheritance to us, and His incomparably great power will make a reward for the believer that is beyond description, and only a heart enlightened by God can even begin to comprehend it. It will be well worth our temporary struggles in this world.

Day 8 - A short thought from God's Word:

Ephesians 1:19. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

The incomparably great power of God is able to raise Christ from the dead and exalt Him to rule over everthing in existence. And that same power is working for us, to create a better eternity. So do you think heaven will be enjoyable?
